The player puts himself in the role of the young Syffrid, of whom an old friend is dying. The dying man asks on his deathbed for a final favor; Syffrid should go to Konigart and find the Adamas diamonds there. It was once a talisman of the dying man and he promised it to his wife, a promise that he wants to meet in the final days of his life.
